Embargoed/Sanctioned Countries

Duke maintains a Restricted Regions List of locations that pose high risk. The Duke Restricted Regions List is updated whenever conditions warrant by the International Travel Oversight Committee (ITOC).  Travelers should also be aware of the list of countries that have been sanctioned by the U.S. Government, because travel to these sanctioned countries may have restrictions or require a license.

Countries for which travel may be restricted

 Afghanistan  Lebanon
 Balkan countries (Serbia, Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, including Kosovo)  Liberia
 Belarus  Libya
 Burma  North Korea
 China  Palestine/Hamas
 Congo, Democratic Republic of
 Sierra Leone
 Cuba*  Somalia
 Cyprus  Sri Lanka
 Eritrea  Sudan
 Fiji  Syria
 Haiti  Thailand
 Indonesia Vietnam
 Iran  Venezuela
 Iraq  Yemen
 Ivory Coast
 Zimbabwe
